The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Express Displeasure About Sizing Changes
Shoppers are voicing their frustration due to a modification that led to listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The second-hand shopping app has revised its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Digital Channels Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are posting online stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the new system was more in line with similar services.
It has advised users to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually when needed, which has left users frustrated.
Measurement Approach Updates
Previously, the measurements included numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Member Experiences
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
A different member, based in Glasgow, stated items she posted with size 14 tags were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they will likely be quite upset," she said.
Required Changes
Another shopper, based in Derby, said she had been left angered by the change as she had to manually change the sizing for "all her products".
"This situation is especially annoying, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Marketplace Information
The platform boasts over 100 million members, with 18 million British users.
It has emerged as a preferred choice compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion that an unexpected update within the service has received backlash: previously, the service retracted a modification concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
