Revitalized Medvedev Secures First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months
19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard surfaces
A revitalized Medvedev won his first trophy for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former trainer Gilles Cervara.
Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This represents the player's first championship since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from spring of 2023.
The win also means he has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 distinct tournaments.
"For the first time I have attended a event with my children together, so to win a championship is really nice," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in that event previously this season.
The player's retrieving play style and frequent reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.
But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete assertively, supported by an better serving game.
Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.
Both players swapped breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour championship, took control to force a decider.
He defended 4 early-game break points in a competitive final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Appropriately, the winner earned victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
