Congress Greenlights Legislation to Disclose Jeffrey Epstein Documents
The Senate on this Tuesday gave swift approval to a bill that will mandate the disclosure of official records concerning the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a almost unanimous vote in the House of Representatives and a change of position by the president and his Republican allies. The administration relented after months of trying to block the joint action involving a controversy that has plagued the president since his return to the White House.
Unanimous Approval in Both Chambers
The Senate acted by general agreement, which needs acceptance from each senator but does not require a recorded vote, accelerating the process. Just before, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill on a 427-1 tally.
The public have endured sufficient delay. Those affected have waited long enough,” Chuck Schumer stated in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before asking the Senate to pass it unanimously. “Let the truth come out. Let transparency reign.”
Next Steps
This legislation next goes to Donald Trump for his signature. He indicated on Monday that he would sign the measure.
Though the president has for months downplayed the controversy over the official management of the investigation as a “Democrat hoax”, he signalled his support for the House bill over the weekend, and stated he would give his assent if it is presented to him.
Response
The Democratic party, along with victims and their representatives who were watching from a House gallery, cheered after the bill was enacted. The sole “no” vote came from a Louisiana Republican, who expressed concern he was concerned the measure would disclose specific data of witnesses, persons of interest and others involved in the investigation.
